Resilience for Life

Build strength. Build resilience.

Resilience for Life is my signature coaching programme designed to help you become mentally, emotionally and physically more resilient.

It isn't about becoming tougher or pretending that difficult things don't affect you. It's about developing greater confidence in your ability to deal with pressure, adapt when life doesn't go to plan, recover from setbacks and keep moving forward.

RESILIENCE IS NOT JUST ABOUT BEING "TOUGH"

Resilience is often described as the ability to keep going when things get difficult. But I think there's much more to it than that.

Sometimes resilience means persevering. Sometimes it means recovering. Sometimes it means changing direction when the original plan is no longer working.

Resilience for Life combines psychology, coaching and appropriate physical challenge to help you understand how you respond to difficulty — and develop more effective ways of dealing with it.

We won't simply talk about resilience. You'll have opportunities to practise it.

The programme explores how you think, manage pressure, respond to setbacks and approach challenges. We’ll also examine the habits that help you keep going when motivation fades.

The physical element isn't about athletic performance or pushing yourself to extremes. It's individual to you and designed to provide a practical environment in which some of the ideas we explore can be put into action.

The aim isn't to make life easier. It's to become better equipped for everything life throws at you.

About

WHAT COULD RESILIENCE FOR LIFE HELP YOU DEVELOP?

Greater self-belief

Develop confidence based on what you're capable of doing, not simply what you tell yourself.

Adaptability

Become better able to adjust when circumstances, plans or expectations change.

Handling pressure

Develop more effective ways of responding when life becomes stressful or difficult.

Discipline & consistency

Build behaviours that don't depend entirely on feeling motivated.

Dealing with setbacks

Learn to recover, reassess and move forward when things don't work out.

Direction

Become clearer about what matters to you and where you want to go next.

The programme gives you a structured opportunity to explore these areas, put them into practice and build your own approach to resilience that continues beyond our work together.

WHY I CREATED RESILIENCE FOR LIFE

Physical and mental challenges have also played an important part in my life. Endurance running has taught me that resilience involves more than toughness or persistence.

I'm an endurance runner, and after around a year of preparation, I stood on the start line of a 100-mile ultramarathon expecting to finish it.

I didn't.

At around 50 miles, injury meant I had a decision to make. Continuing simply to prove I could tolerate more pain wasn't the right choice. I stopped.

I was disappointed, but fairly quickly my attention shifted to what came next: What had I learned? What were my weaknesses? What could I change? And what would I do differently next time?

That experience reinforced something I've come to believe strongly:

Resilience isn't about never failing, struggling or having to change the plan. It's about how you respond when reality doesn't match the plan.

My experiences of endurance sport and physical challenge, combined with my work as a psychotherapist and coach, eventually led me to develop Resilience for Life.

The programme brings those worlds together — not to train people to become endurance athletes, but to take principles that can be experienced through challenge and apply them to everyday life.

Coaching, not therapy

Resilience for Life is a coaching and personal development programme rather than psychotherapy. Although my therapeutic training and understanding of psychology inform the way I work, the programme focuses on developing resilience, skills and behaviours and putting them into practice in your life.

If therapy appears more appropriate for what you're experiencing, we'll discuss that openly.
